DUO Vorgić/Sovtić
Top-class duo…not only as musicians and performers but also in their stage presence!
Duo Vorgić–Sovtić is a Serbian chamber ensemble formed by soprano Radoslava Vorgić and pianist Nevena Sovtić, both lecturers at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. United by their shared passion for art song and deep musical sensitivity, the duo began their collaboration in 2021, and quickly established themselves as an expressive and artistically focused partnership.
With a commitment to both traditional and contemporary vocal-piano repertoire, Duo Vorgić–Sovtić has distinguished itself through thoughtful programming and dedicated work in performance, education, and research. Their shared vision centers on promoting the art song tradition in Serbia and the wider region, while also contributing to the global appreciation of Serbian and East European vocal music.
In October 2022, the duo led a masterclass for young singers and pianists in Novi Sad, continuing their mission to nurture the next generation of musicians. Throughout 2023, they gave a number of notable performances, including the premiere of works by Serbian composers and themed recitals that explore poetic and dramatic dimensions of the art song. They were semifinalists at the Lied competition Bolko von Hochberg in Görlitz, Germany, gaining international recognition for their interpretation and ensemble unity.
In addition to their concert work, the duo has realized several significant artistic projects. These include two CD recordings: one featuring the complete songs of composer Saša Kovačević, commissioned by the Academy of Arts, and another dedicated to the songs of Rudolf Brucci, a key figure in Serbian modernism. They also organized a masterclass with composer Aleksandra Vrebalov on the theme “Serbian Female Poets and Art Song,” bridging contemporary composition with literary and cultural heritage.
Their recent recital programs reflect a unique and creative approach to programming. Themed performances such as “Who is Ophelia?” (presented at A Fest, Academy of Arts), “Shakespeare in Song,” “Humoristic Song,” and “Fairy Tales in Song” explore the interplay of music, poetry, and narrative. Another collaborative project, “Messiaen and His Pupils,” featured flutist Petar Popović, highlighting the legacy of Olivie Messiaen in Serbian Art Song.
At the end of 2023, Duo Vorgić–Sovtić took a significant step by founding ArtSong Novi Sad, the first Serbian association dedicated solely to promoting art song. The organization aims to build a platform for art song performance, education, and research, fostering a sustainable and vibrant song culture in Serbia and the region.
With their deep artistic commitment, versatile programming, and work in education and outreach, Duo Vorgić–Sovtić continues to expand the horizons of art song in Southeast Europe and beyond. Their goal remains clear: to bring the richness of the song repertoire to new audiences, support contemporary creators, and inspire a broader appreciation for this intimate and profound musical form.
